I set out on a personal challenge last year to average out 10K steps a day in 2020 and it seemed daunting at first as there are always several other commitments to fulfill in a day and we often miss. But I was committed to it and I decided to put that on a paper and wore a smartwatch to track this goal.

1 year down the lane fulfilling this commitment not only gave me a sense of achievement but also taught me some aspects of entrepreneurship which are noteworthy :-

Tangible Benefits

  1. Not just plan, write numbers — Once I wrote on paper about completing 10K steps a day, my mind started to give me ways to achieve it. I started to figure out how am I going to manage the time during a day to achieve this goal. You see, brain understands numbers and unless you put numbers on the table, you are hardly going to achieve your goals. Same is in business. Put on paper the business goals you want to achieve in a year. Do not do the math now. Just write a number. This number is so powerful and will pave the way for your brain to give you ways to achieve it. Believe me this is powerful.
  2. Do the math — After writing a number on paper, next step is to do the math and reverse calculations as to how to achieve that goal. It becomes so easy if you just break down that goal into small achievable tasks. I wanted to complete 10K steps a day and seemed a large number at first. But I broke it down into 10 phase of 1000 steps each after every 1 hour of my work. I set a vibration alarm on my smartwatch to remind me to stand and walk 1000 steps before going on to my desk again. And here it was. In just 10 hours of work a day, I was able to achieve 10K steps. In business too, that revenue goal you have, break it down into a monthly and weekly goal. Look the metric you need to work upon to achieve that number. And by the end of the year you would have achieved your business goals easily.
  3. Become more action oriented — One thing I realised is just writing number is not enough. Action is the most important thing you need to take to move ahead in life. Committing to something and taking action on it helps gain confidence and makes you evolve as a human being.

Intangible Benefits

  1. Make your subconscious more powerful— I can’t express enough a sense of achievement that is sensed when I go to sleep now after having completing 10K steps a day. It is not only about health, but also about building your subconscious powerful enough to get you to where you want to be in life. A single commitment when followed for a year can build your subconscious immensely and let you achieve your business goals that you set for yourself.
  2. Become more aware of your actions — If you become aware of your actions, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Following a regime of action oriented approach everyday, I became more aware of my work, my actions started to align with my business goals, helping me achieve them much sooner than planned.
  3. Become more self disciplined— It is said that self discipline is the key to success. By following a self disciplined approach in one aspect of life, I became much more disciplined in all aspects of life whether it be health, wealth, family time, reading books etc and by taking action consistently in right direction it made my life simple and productive.

Remember, making a commitment and then taking action every day will surely give you the best life possible. Would you try?
